about

Some people are drawn to the ocean, others to the mountains or the city. I’ve always loved wandering through nature, looking up into the trees. My current range is inspired by the great river gums I pass every morning on my walk. Their dusty grey-green leaves and mottled bark are reflected in the colour palette of my favourite glazes.

I’m fortunate to have a small backyard studio in my home in the leafy Melbourne suburb of Rosanna, with my wheel positioned in front of a window that looks out into the trees.

In my ceramic practice, I wholeheartedly enjoy the freedom to be true to myself—to make all the decisions about my work. I usually begin by creating pieces that I personally want on my table or feel I need in my life. I often smile during conversations with customers about the size of my mugs or the sturdiness of my serving dishes.

Having grown up in Germany in a household where my mother treasured her fine, delicate china—which always made me nervous—I now surround myself with handmade items that are both meaningful and sturdy. They’re precious to me, but cozy and practical, too—nothing my husband or sons ever have to be cautious around. My pieces are strong enough to be tossed into a drawer by the boys, and light enough for little hands to hold. They’re made to be used, loved, and passed through many hands.

I’m a firm believer that everything holds energy—including the objects we choose to surround ourselves with. A kitchen filled with handmade ceramics is a beautiful thing. When we live with items that carry meaning and bring us joy, our lives become richer. In a world driven by mass production and consumerism, I find beauty in having fewer things, and greater meaning in each of them.

This is what I hope to share through my range of mostly functional wares.

You can find my work in select outlets across Australia and at design markets in and around Melbourne. Please get in touch if you’d like more information about where to find my pieces or to book a studio visit.
